The Eiffel Tower was built from 1887-1889 for the World Exhibition at the Centennial celebration of the French revolution. One of the most famous and most photographed Paris attractions is most certainly the well known Eiffel Tower which is located in the center of Paris. This Paris attraction was designed by Gustave Eiffel for the world fair of 1889 which was hosted in Paris that year.

If you would like to go to the top of the Paris Eiffel Tower then please note that the opening hours are from 09:30 until 23:00.

The tower met with resistance from the public when it was first built because it was thought to be an eyesore. Today it is widely considered to be one of the most beautiful pieces of architectural art in the world.

Originally, Eiffel only had a permit to leave the tower standing for 20 years, but as it proved valuable for communication purposes, it was allowed to stay after the end of the permit.

The Eiffel Tower was once sold to a dupe by con artist, Victor Lustig.

Eiffel Tower The tower is 300 metres tall, (986 feet), not including the television antenna on top, which adds another 20 meters. Maintenance on the tower includes 50 tons of dark brown paint every 7 years.

In the year 2000, flashing lights and several high power search lights were installed on the tower. Since then light shows have become an expected nightly event. The search lights on top of the tower make it a beacon in Paris' night sky.
